Since 12 January 2015 is the Honorary Consulate of Luxembourg in the German city of Düsseldorf responsible for the entire Bundesland North Rhine-Westphalia. This jurisdiction includes Aachen, Düren as well as Heinsberg which before were under a separate honorary consulate based in Aachen.

Honorary Consul Prof. Dr. Siegfried Elsing is a German business lawyer. He is a senior partner of the international law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP as well as honorary professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.

Düsseldorf is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and centre of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region with a population of 11 million inhabitants. The city is a financial, communications, trade and fashion centre in Germany.

The Bundesland itself is the most populous within Germany.
