Philip Pierre sworn in as Saint Lucia’s premier

Saturday, 28 July 2021, Castries, Saint Lucia: On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen of Saint Lucia, the latter’s Governor-General Sir Neville Cenac appointed The Rt Hon Philip Pierre as novel head of government of the island state. 

Philip Pierre is a long-time politician who recently led the Labour Party to an electoral win that led to a shift in government. His party won 13 out of 17 possible seats for the House of Assembly. 

Since 1997 Philip Pierre has served in the capacity of an MP representing the constituency of Castries East in the House of Assembly. Within government Pierre has served in the roles of Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and International Financial Services from 1997 to 2000 and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport from 2011 to 2016.
