Her Excellency Mrs. Odette Melono, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon, hosted a celebratory reception at the Worldhotel Bel Air in The Hague to honor the National Day.

The 20th of May was chosen by the Government as the National Day in order to commemorate President Ahmadou Ahidjo’s abolishment of the Federal System of Government and the creation of a unitary country in 1972. However, Cameroon achieved independence form France on January 1st, 1960 alongside other French colonies.
