European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs paid a working visit to the Principality of Monaco, and was welcomed in audience by HSH The Sovereign Prince,European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici as well as the Governmental Counsellor for External Relations and Cooperation, HE M Gilles Tonelli, who before his appointment on 23 February 2015 was Head of Mission of Monaco to the Benelux countries and the EU.
Monaco and the other European micro-states such as Andorra and San Marino are in the process of negotiation a new status vis-à-vis the EU. Hence the ordre du jour was focused on the modification of the “Agreement between the European Community and the Principality of Monaco” envisaging equivalent measures to the directive 2003/48/CE. Moreover the issues surrounding bank transparency as well as the tax evasion, and the principality’s commitment to the international standards as developped by the EU and the OCDE.
