The winners of the 60th World Press Photo awards have been announced, and can be viewed as a gallery hereunder:

The jury of the 60th annual photo contest chose the image by Associated Press Turkish photographer Burhan Özbilici as the World Press Photo of the Year. More precisely the picture wherein Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, a 22-year-old off-duty police officer, assassinated the Russian Ambassador to Turkey, H.E. Andrey Karlov, at an art exhibition in Ankara, Turkey, on 19 December 2016. He wounded three other people before being killed by officers in a shootout.
