Friday, 16 March 2018: Christian Social Union politician, Markus Söder, was elected by an overwhelming majority as XI Bavarian Premier since 1945 in a ballot wherein 99 out of 169 votes went for his candidacy.

Born in Nuremberg, Söder is with 51 years the youngest Bavarian premier thus far. Previous to holding the reins of the Free State of Bavaria’s government, Söder served as Minister of State for Finance, Regional Development and Home Affairs in the regional government between 2011 and 2018.

On 21 March 2018, Premier Söder’s cabinet was officially presented. New Head of Chancery and Minister for Federal Affairs becomes Dr. Florian Herrmann, Minister for Digital, Media and European Affairs is Georg Eisenreich.
