The Principality of Andorra is the newest and smallest member of the Ibero-American Conference. With a history and a culture bridging between the south and north of the Pyrenees, its institutions, old and original, have allowed it to consolidate itself in the modernity. Andorra promotes multilingualism and diversity as values related to his own identity.
By assuming the pro tempore chairmanship in the secretariat of the Ibero-American Conference (SPT) until the end of its term of office, the XXVII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government shall take place in November 2020 in the micro-state.
By 2020, Andorra wishes to strengthen its commitment to the links that bind it to the region. At the same time, it wants to contribute to consolidating the Ibero-American acquis and implementing the mandates of the different summits, identifying the common challenges of the region and the potential opportunities to take on those challenges.
With these arguments Andorra has chosen as the slogan for the XXVII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government: “Innovation for Sustainable Development – Target 2030”. Andorra is a country committed to the values and principles of the Agenda 2030, as well as to what is expected of it. Both, the private sector, and other public and private institutions that have made a significant contribution to the the Sustainable Development Goals.
In April 2019, the Government of Andorra approved its National Strategic Plan for the Implementation of Agenda 2030, in a further step to to make this road-map a national priority and a state project. For this reason, the SPT of Andorra welcomes the witness of the SPT of Guatemala and proposes to continue situating the Agenda 2030 at the heart of the action, in particular its fundamental principle of leaving no one behind.
Sustainable development can be understood as that which is “capable of satisfying the needs of the world” without compromising the ability of future generations to respond to their own needs. The latter requires concerted efforts to build an inclusive future, sustainable and resilient for people and the planet”. In order to achieve sustainable development, it is essential to harmonise the three necessary dimensions: the economic impulse, social inclusion, and the environment. These elements are interdependent and must serve to promote the well-being of individuals and societies.
Andorra’s pursuit, hosting the summit, is none other than to promote innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean, to put it at the service of the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Objectives, with the intention to bring about those changes, not only technological ones, that generate a reaction, both in the public sector as well as in the whole of our societies, and an accelerating effect in the achievement of the 169 goals, considering sustainable development from the dimensions social, cultural, educational, environmental and economic.
