Recent reports of possible use of chemical weapons in Iraq by non-State actors are a matter of serious concern. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is in contact with the government of Iraq and will examine any substantive reports it receives including pertinent information that might be shared
by other States Parties.
The Director-General of the OPCW, H. E. Ahmet Üzümcü, recalled that States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention regard the use of chemical weapons by anyone under any circumstances as reprehensible and completely contrary to the legal norms and standards of the international community.
