17-18 August 2021, Tashkent-Berlin: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel to discuss Uzbek cooperation in facilitating the evacuation of German citizens, and allies from Afghanistan.

Particularly noteworthy was the convergence of positions and approaches of the two countries in preventing an escalation of tensions and violence in Afghanistan as well as the comprehensive support of the international community for a political solution to the Afghan conflict.

Both sides stressed the importance of coordination and intensive cooperation between authorities in the humanitarian airlift operations to evacuate citizens from Afghanistan to Germany via Uzbekistan.
It was agreed to maintain regular contacts at the highest and most senior levels on further developments in the region.

The day before President Mirziyoyev had already held a call with Germany’s president, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier. They discussed issues of further development of the multi-layered Uzbek-German relations and the most important aspects of regional cooperation.
